How to get started with RateCompass

RateCompass is a European service designed to help online retailers easily collect, manage, and display product reviews.

1. Install the App

If you haven’t already, install the RateCompass app from your app marketplace. For Vilkas Now and ePages Now merchants, you can easily install and deploy the service directly from your online shop’s backend. See more detailed installation instructions > here.

2. Access the Dashboard

After installing the app and registering your account, log in to the RateCompass dashboard. This is where you’ll manage reviews and account settings. Key sections include:

  • Statistics: Track review performance and engagement.
  • Orders: View customer order data linked to reviews.
  • Reviews: Approve, reject, and manage product reviews.
  • Settings: Configure review and message settings.
  • Agreement: Review your subscription details.

3. Update User Settings

Ensure your user settings are accurate. These can be updated anytime in the User settings section.

4. Update your Compass to fit your needs

A Compass is the central component of RateCompass, used to collect and display reviews. Here’s how to set it up:

  • Compass Name: Assign an internal name (e.g., your webshop name) to identify this Compass in your dashboard.
  • Compass Marketing Name: Choose a customer-facing name that appears in emails and other communications.
  • Review Type: Select how customers rate your products:
    • Stars: 1–5-star ratings, with an average score displayed on the product page.
    • Thumbs: Thumbs up or down, displayed as "Recommends this product."
  • Reviews have editable title and text fields: Enable this option if you want customers to add comments or titles to their reviews.
  • Automatically approve all incoming reviews: Decide whether reviews should automatically appear on your product page or require manual approval.

💡 Tip: If you’re using the Free version of RateCompass, you can display only one review per product. If you want to display more reviews, upgrade to the Basic plan, which has no limits on showing reviews.

5. Set Up Review Request Emails

Choose the delay for sending review requests after a customer completes an order.
Recommendation: Time the email to arrive after the customer has received their product to ensure authentic reviews. Adjust based on typical delivery times.

6. Customize Message Settings

Personalize your communication with customers in Message Settings:

  • Before Review: Add a message on the review request form to encourage your customer to write a review.
  • After Review: Include a thank-you message to be shown after the submission of a review, and if you want, a link back to your shop.
  • Learn more about message settings > here.

You’re All Set!

Start collecting verified reviews and showcasing them to build trust, credibility, and customer engagement for your store.
